Madonna Is Still Making Music for the Dance Floor... and the Group Fitness Studio

Madonna Louise Veronica Ciccone better known simply as Madonna —has just released three powerful dance-pop tracks from her forthcoming album Confessions II. One thing is immediately clear: she's unapologetically making music for dancing.

Her new track, "I Feel So Free," says it all:

"...but out here, on the dancefloor, I feel so free..."

Over the last four decades, if there's one thing Madonna has become known for, it's creating some of the best music to move to. Her songs have rhythms that dig deep into our bodies—and our souls—with lyrics that remind us how music can transport us into a different state of mind, whether we're on a dance floor or in the middle of a workout.

I've always said that the group exercise room is a lot like a dance floor. It's filled with sweaty bodies moving to the beat of the music, all looking for an hour-long escape from the outside world—or maybe just from the pain of the workout.

In fact, I'd argue that fitness instructors are DJs in their own right.

Think about it:

  • "Burning Up" (138 BPM) energized the high-impact aerobics craze of the '80s.
  • "Hung Up" (125 BPM) became a perfect fit for step classes.
  • "Ray of Light" (128 BPM) practically begged to be played in an indoor cycling studio.
  • "Vogue" (116 BPM) still works beautifully for strength training.

Now, with her newest releases—"I Feel So Free" (124 BPM), "Bring Your Love" (121 BPM), and "Love Sensation" (124 BPM)—the Queen of Pop appears to be delivering another collection of songs made for movement.

The new album is reportedly being released as a continuous, non-stop mix, which could make it especially fun to use in fitness classes. I'm curious to hear how the final mix comes together.

And for a little extra fun, check out Confessions II – The Film, a visual companion to the album featuring 16 celebrities, including Madonna's daughter, Lourdes Leon. It's a reminder that, after all these years, Madonna continues to reinvent herself while staying true to what she does best: creating music that makes us want to move.

Whether you're dancing in a club, riding an indoor cycle, teaching a HIIT class, or leading a strength workout, one thing hasn't changed:

When Madonna releases dance music, the fitness world usually isn't far behind.

Be sure to check out Madonna's newest releases on your favorite streaming platform, including Spotify, Apple Music, and more.
